it's hard for me to explain in english... I suggest you to read my guide, is in italian but with google translator you should be able to understand it... as regards the size depends, just try and decide when is good for you...

aaah, ok... i use paint.net, use the magic wand (hotkey S), click on the white background and cut it, reclick on the background, invert selection (Ctrl+i), crop to selection (Ctrl+shift+X)... ther resize (ctrl+R), the bigger number must be 128 (if is circle or square is 128x128, the potrugal for example is height 128/width 98 cause height was higher value)
